The Bradford Festival
The Bradford Festival was a popular initiative developed by local people. Over the years it gained a widespread reputation for its innovative approach. It is best known for the Mela, but the Festival is by no means defined by this one event in its calendar.
The organisation of the Festival was recently handed over by the Council to a private company. This initiative has failed. The Festival has declined, and the Council has had to step in to prop up the company involved.
Alan supports the restoration of the Festival under a trust comprised of experienced local people representative of the community. It would be supervised and supported by the Council, but not run directly by Councillors or Council officers.

I wholeheartedly support the revival of the Festival in this form. The fact that the Festival was taken from a company made up of Bradfordians, and given to an outside company with no experience of the city, illustrates one of the problems that Bradford has - a lack of trust in its own people. |
